  1. I just removed the factory stereo from my 2000 Toyota Avalon.  Here are the steps I took for removal:
    1) Remove center vent panel.
    2) Open console storage bin (where you rest your arm on console).
    3) Remove black plastic panel around the latch for console lid (where lid actually latches to console)
It removes by pulling straight up.  All parts are held by clips to this point.
    4) Remove two black philips head screws that hold console top to console base.
    5) Remove console top by lifting from the back first (where you just removed screws).  This will require you to put         the car in nuetral so be sure your parking brake is engaged and functioning properly.  You must lift the back of the console top first as it has two ears that go up into the instrument panel.
    6) Remove black panel with foam strip at top located just below climate controls to reveal the other two mounting bolts (first two at top behind vent panel)(there are four gold 10mm mounting screws, two at top and two at bottom)
    7) Once all four mounting bolts are removed pull stereo towards the back of the vehicle. Note you will have to remove the stereo AND climate controls at the same time so take care not to damage wiring!!!!
    8) Remove the 8 black philips head screws (4 on each side) that hold stereo to mounting bracket.  Gently spread brackets and slide stereo straight foreward. You now have removed the factory radio.  Note:  If installing aftermarket stereo, the adaptor kit that I saw has new mounting brackets, if this is the case on your vehicle, remove two black philips head mounting screws (one on each side) from climate control to completely remove factory brackets.

    Hope this helps.
