Question:

Remove wall-paint spot from walnut finished cabinet without ruining cabinet?

My husband accidentally got some beige wall paint on the side of our walnut stained china cabinet. He had neglected to put a plastic sheet or tarp over the furniture while he was painting the wall nearby. The spot has been there for years with a chair sitting next to it to hide the spot on the side. I don't want to ruin the finish of this expensive cabinet. I don't want to need to refinish the cabinet just because of the small spot there.

Is there a safe way to get the paint spot off of the side of my china cabinet?

  1. "goof-off" is the name, its a citrus based cleaner made just for problems like yours. it works, i use it all the time...

  2. If it's latex paint, just keep the spot wet.  The paint will dissolve.  Careful, only apply the water enough to keep the paint wet.  The finish on the piece will protect the area underneath.
