Question:

Removing 8 teeth at once?

I need to have 8 teeth removed for bracing (overcrowding) and I chose to remove all of them at one go under GA (General Anaesthesia). I am doing it at a hospital by a oral surgeon recommended by my sister.

My mother is very concerned about my decision although I am already 18. She keeps saying that removing the teeth gradually (4, 4) will be a better option.

Is it really safe to have 8 teeth removed at once?

  1. I would recommend having it done twice (4, 4)

Maybe the shock will be too big when you wake up, including the sudden pains. This way you can get used to it. Trust me on this one

  2. I think it will be safe.... but it may affect your gums, I am not sure.

But think of the pain!!!!! you do realize that anesthesia does wear off don't you??

It CAN'T hurt during, but you will certainly feel (and regret) it a few hours later.

  3. I'm sure it is VERY safe, your mother might be concerned about the discomfort or troubles you will have post surgery( eating, swelling) doing things gradually will give your mouth time to adapt, albeit the healing time would be doubled to due the double surgery.

I would be like you, all it once, rip em out and send me home. Never see that b*****d again though.

  4. With  laboratory blood test in order and in the hands of a good surgeon,of course it is safe. A little bit uncomfortable but safe. Good look. Dr. Ibarra Maxillofacial Surgeon in Mexico.

  5. It's safe and much easier to recover from, rather than having to make two visits and two rounds of pain.

Just make sure to follow your post-op instructions.

  6. I had it done, when I was 10 or so.  I had eight teeth removed for the same reason.  I remember waking up really confused and disoriented.  I would have a friend or your mom with you for the procedure, even though you are older.

I think it might be better to just go through it once.  The more surgery and GA you can avoid the better, right?

  7. Yes its safe to have 8 teeth out at once, you will be very sore but thats about it. Alot of my patients choose to have there teeth taken out in one sitting, its less stressful.

Re assure your mother everything will be fine. Ask your Dentist for a leaflet, she can read it for herself.

    Hope this helps!
