  1. Fuel is explosive.

Search for a site where there are chemists and/or chemical engineers, who can answer those questions for you.

The risks are too great, otherwise.

    Good Luck.

  2. Thanks, Vicinic, for the discussion on hydrotreating.  Very well written.

I understand that this is why they don't mine sulfur anymore: it all comes from operations like this one.

  3. Here in the United States the diesel fuel that is sold for highway use is ultra low sulfur, under 15 ppm. The diesel sold for off road use in agricultural,  logging and construction equipment has higher sulfur content but standards are changing to the ultra low sulfur fuel for those uses. The only legal use for high sulfur fuel will be for home heating oil.

  4. to remove S from oils you'll need a hydrotreater. The Sulphur isn't just the yellow stuff, its bonded to other hydrocarbons in many different ways.  There maybe 10 or 20 different Sulphur bearing compounds in diesel.  Google Hydrotreater.

The hydro doesn't mean water, it means hydrogen.  Hydrogen is injected into the oils in the presence of a catylst, platinum would be good.  The sulphur reacts with hydrogen to make the poisinous gas called hydrogen sulphide.  This gas along with some other gases are sent to a H2S recovery unit.  This system circulates a special solvent to recover the H2S.  The recovered H2S is then sent to a sulphur plant where it is converted to molten sulphur.  Again expensive catylists are used
