Removing an old fitting from a black gas pipe.

I am replacing new gas dryer but I can't removing the old fitting from the black gas pipe to replace it with a new one it is just to tight. it appears frozen with old sealant, is there a trick to removing this.

  1. spray with a penetrating solvent and let sit for 5-10 minutes. Hold one side with one pipe wrench and work the fitting with another pipe wrench. turn left to loosen. Good luck!


  2. Plumber:  two pipe wrenches.  If that fitting won't come loose try the one behind it if possible.  

    Two pipe wrenches and plenty of elbow grease.

    If it were water pipe, I would use a torch to heat up both fittings, so that the dope would soften.  But #1 this is a gas line.  and #2 I don't know how dumb you are.

    Good luck.  Don't blow up your house by installing the gas line improperly.  Make sure the dryer vent is correct.  Metal for gas/dryers.

    Use dope, not Teflon tape for putting gas line back together again.  

    When energized, check for leaks everywhere with soapy water, where the threads go into the adjoining fitting.
