Question:

Removing blue tint from white shirts after wash ?

Hi all,

I washed my work shirts which were all white and I think I had something in the machine that was blue (silly me!). Anyway after the wash the shirts were still quite white, but all had a slight blue tint.

How can I make the shirts back to white again and remove this tint?

Thanks.

  1. Buy a truly magical product called Colour Catcher.  I've no idea how it works, but you put a hanky-sized piece of fabric in the wash with your laundry - and it 'catches' any colour that seeps out of garments.  More importantly from your perspective, it also 'catches' colour that has leeched from one garment to another, so I think you'll find that it rids your shirts of the blue tint.  The Colour Catcher sheets are not re-usable and so, if like me you routinely put one in your wash, you soon go through them.  I think they're worth it, though.  Good luck!

  2. A washing powder specifically for whites which will contain bleach

  3. I've done this before.  Rewash them separately and add some dry bleach  or oxy clean to the load.

Hope that does it for you.

  4. Firstly, you could try adding something like Ace Gentle Washing Bleach to the wash. If that does not work there are products formulated to remove colour run, such as Dr Beckman. These are available from most supermarkets, and are very effective.

  5. Oh Bliss! So good to know I'm not alone -if you find the answer, can you please share it?! Thanks in advance - and good luck!

Alternatively - what's wrong with blue?!
