Removing burn marks from a rug?

I have a wool rug, very old and irreplacable, that my friend has burned slightly with her straighteners. The rug is grey but the straighteners have left two orange lines on it. Is there any way I can get rid of the orange colour?

You might be able to take a razor and very carefully cut off the burned portion.
