Question:

Removing dog eye crusties?

Is there anything on the market that helps remove eye crust? Or some sort of home remedy? I tried just using some warm water and a paper towel but it doesn't seem to do the job.

Thanks in advance!

  1. baby oil and cloth soak lightly keep out of eye wait a 1 or2 then rub

  2. You got the warm water right, but use a soft washcloth, not paper towels, which can scratch the eye if the dog's eye is open.

  3. A quick l**k of the toungue could do the trick!!! Then you can give 'em a nice big smack on those slobbery lips...'ehh ...mouth....ehhh whatever!

  4. Just clean them more often.

Have you tried filtered water?  My white boxer used to get bad tear stains until I started giving her filtered water instead of tap.  The stains disappeared within days.  You might want to give it a try....

    Add:

It has to be filtered from a pitcher or a faucet attachment, not bottled water.

  5. its just a natural thing, my dog gets its all the time and so i usualy just get rid of it with my finger!

to me they're called eye bogeys!

i think it might be just a human version of sleep.

also i was told it gets worse if you feed them too much human rubbish eg. crisps and biscuits.

dont worry about it and hope this helps

  6. If it's gotten to the point where it's crusting over then your dog may have an infection of some sort.

Usually my dogs "eye boggers" can be removed just with a tissue.

  7. have you tried potroleum jelly/vasaline? after you get the eyes cleaned that is and why is the eye crust there anyway? is there an infection or just sleepies?

  8. I bought some eye drops from PetSmart and they soften them up to a goo and then I can wipe it with a washcloth or I even use my fingers to pull the gooey mess off her eyes.  :)

  9. we just pick them out for our dog.  we say "you have an eye booger" and just wipe them out with our fingers.  she doesnt care since we've been doing it to her since she was about 6 weeks old.  sometimes we have to scrape them out with our nails cause they get stuck in the fur but i think if we tried to use a paper towl or cloth she would try to get away (or eat it)

  10. Use warm water and a wash cloth. They hold up better.
