Question:

Removing floor wax buildup on linoleum floors WITHOUT ammonia?

I have an older linoleum floor in my kitchen and dining room. my husband has on several occasions waxed the floor, but didn't notice some places where the wax had dripped or been very thick. this has since yellowed, and looks very unsightly. i just cleaned my floor today, and it looks great except for these stains. is there any way to remove these spots of buildup without using ammonia? we try to do everything naturally, and without commercial cleaners or chemicals if at all possible. we have young children in the house (3 years and 11 weeks), and avoid chemicals at all cost. any tips?

  1. steal wool works the best for your old floor

  2. Cream of tartar and white viengar work well to remove it. It is about 1oz cream of tartar to 8 oz vinegar (1cup to 1 gallon). I have used this method and it worked very well for me. I also do not use harsh chemicals due to medicaL issues within my family. This was only natural recipe i found tha worked.

  3. their is a wax stripier you can buy, it works great.they sell them every where.(not to harsh at all)

  4. Armstrong makes a stripper. I think they're pretty strong if you're going for natural. My son has asthma so I try to stay away from the chemicals too. Have you ever tried Borax? It's in the laundry aisle with stain removers. It's a natural powdered abrasive. Mix it into a paste with a little water and scrub with a pot scrubber. You can use it for a multitude of other cleaning tasks too. It's in a greenish box.
