Removing floorboards

need to remove a piece of floorboard that is split in the bedroom but the problem i got is i cannot take the full floorboard up as it goes from the bedroom on to the landing and that would mean i would have to take the carpet up and we just had it fitted. I was going to cut the split piece out on the closet joist but i was wondering what is the best way to do this as i don't want to prise the floorboard up as it might loosen it on the landing. I don't want to use a circular saw to do a plunge cut so i was wondering if one of these tools would be ok.

If one of these would be ok what would you go for as i don't no which one to buy as you get a 3 year manufacturer's guarantee and more sanding sheets with the worx but the bosch is a better make.

The floorboards that you buy now are 18mm thick but the old ones i got down are 22mm thick so how would you make it level.

  1. Turkysti......There are 3 aspects here, either I am stupid and don't understand the question, or 2, you are a gadget freak who will not do a job without gadgets, or 3 every job you do must have it's technical specifications. What I would do here is, buy myself a nice new wood chisle, say 11/2"  wide and a wooden mallet. Mark the board where it is to be cut,IE across the centre of a floor joist, and cut it out, no complications, no special tools which you will never again use, and no deficit in the bank account. Just make sure the angle of the cut is on the wood to be discarded. If you need 22mm board you will need to go to the lumber yard and have it cut to order. You can afford to do this now, because you have saved all your money on tools you would otherwise have bought.

  2. None of those links work. Also the you want to use way to many gadgets.

  3.   Your going to have to plunge cut it somewhere.Jig saw or skil saw or sawz all ... A simple " catsclaw" pry bar to take nails out is very handy.. Along w/ a ragular crow bar and elbow grease..GL  PS  You sound like my engineer bro are you?? Kidding w/ you  Turk..As far are getting them level you ll have to fill in the differance later or sister a piece of 2x4 or such and nail them slightly high on the joist to bring them up

  4. I cut through floorboards with a jigsaw.  Just shorten the blade so that the maximum depth of cut is the same as the thickness of the floorboard
