How do i remove some of the items on my credit report that have been satisfied. Most of these are 6-8 yrs old and have been satisfied, settled or paid off and i want them off my report. my score is about 630 but the leins i accquired throught a bailout purchase of a business are still listed and rate me at a higher risk than i should be.

Is there a generic letter that i can write and send to all the agencies? the problem is i do not know where the paper work is for all of these items. I believe my lawyer has some of them but not all.

any and all help is greatly appreciated

thank you

  1. dispute each item with all three credit companies and they should report in 30 days satisfied. If not then dispute them again since you have no true proof at this point in time

  2. All you have to do is go to the 3 credit reporting websites and request a free credit report online. At that point you can dispute them online. You do not need proof that that are paid off. Just dispute them and the credit companies have 30-45 days to prove that you still owe them money!

  3. They can stay on your report for 7 years. The clock starts ticking on the date of the first missed payment that led to the default. These items should start coming off naturally within the next year, per the time frame your mentioned.

If you are certain that specific items are older than 7 years old, you can send a letter to the credit bureaus stating:

Per the Fair Credit Reporting Act, I am requesting validation that this item is being reported within the 7-year allowable time.

  4. Satisfied items take 7 years to expire.

Don't be conned into going to one of those 'Credit Clean-up' cowboys .... in UK, to get something removed that has been put on 'in error' can only be done by the original loan companies .. and only they can instruct the Credit Ref. agency to mark the debt as 'satisfied' (you can complain to the Credit ref. agency, and they may mark it 'disputed' but this cuts no ice with anyone running a Credit check on you)...

(in the case of a CCJ, you can appeal to the courts to have the judgment dismissed .. however as soon as the company who got the CCJ against you finds out they will have it re-instated and you could be done for it ..)
