OK we have metal desks that we have to remove from a block wall they were welded on to a plate that is on the face of the block wall. We torched the desks off but can not seems to remove the welds that are on the metal plate. Does anyone have an idea besides a torch.

  1. ? Grinders come in a lot of sizes and styles now a days...

  2. Hard to say without seeing but if it has been welded drill out the weld starting with a small hole in the centre and increasing the size

  3. Have you tried what is called a scarfing or gouging tip on your torch?  It is designed to cut where there is a backing on the plate you need to cut and the slag blows back at you.  Use the gouging tip at an angle to the spot you want to cut and it blows the slag in an arc away from the area.  Or if the weld you are trying to cut is stainless a grinder or air arc is about all that will cut it.
