I guess I didn't say my question completly. The mattress, I have taken care of.

The musty smell is in the couch itself. Since it is a queen size couch and I am disabled, I can't move the couch myself.

Does anyone know any mixture I can make to spray on the couch? As I can't use the boughten fabric spray due to allergies.

I don't have money so I can't afford to get rid of this couch and get another.

Sorry my first question wasn't stated correctly.

  1. Try spreading Backing Soda over the affected area, leave it there for several days, then vacuum it, you may need to do this several times, and remember to throw away the vacuum bag because the baking soda will clog it up.

  2. Sprinkle Baking Soda on the couch and leave on for several hours then vacuum up, repeat if necessary, baking soda is safe and will not cause allergies

You can also spray White Vinegar undiluted in a clean spray bottle, this will remove the odors and disinfect, Note: Do not be discouraged when treating with vinegar as couch will smell of vinegar for just a few minutes then dissipate Good Luck !

  3. Sprinkle baking soda all over it and let it sit there for awhile.  Vacuum up; repeat if necessary.

  4. You could try crumpling up newspapers into balls and putting them all over the couch.  Throw a bedspread over that for a day or two to form a tent.  That might neutralize the odor and draw out any dampness.

We use newspapers in our refrigerator to keep it from getting musty when we're away for awhile.
