Question:

Removing permanent marker?

We were cleaning our car out today getting ready to put it up for sale... and our 2 year old daughter decided to use the car interior as a canvas. She used a black permanent marker on the seats, dashboard and passenger window. Any suggestions on how to get this out? The interior is cloth material and there are quite a few long marks.

  1. Try some rubbing alcohol or hand sanitizer...

  2. The dashboard and window should be pretty easy.  Spray them liberally with hairspray and wipe with a paper towel or cloth, and scratch at it if you need to.  You'll probably have to do several applications and scrubbings and it also helps to let it sit with a pool of hairspray on it for a few minutes.  The seats, ack, that's going to be tougher.  The hairspray might work on them, give it a shot.  If not, you might want to consider renting a carpet shampooer, going to a car detail service, or getting a seat cover.

  3. Try using Resolve Carpet Cleaner or a generic alternative.  It'll pull just about anything out of carpet and upholstery.

  4. keep rubbing with rubbing alcohol it takes a while but it does work.
