Question:

Removing the lice eggs?

My niece had a bad infestation of head lice. The little buggers are all dead now but her hair is coated with these little eggs. She is still being combed and checked for the live ones but no live lice have been found for two weeks now. Her Mom cannot seem to remove the left over dead eggs. There was a remover but they have since stopped making it. Vinegar failed to work also. We live in Canada so if a product is available in the states it doesn't help much here.

  1. Your best bet is using fingernails to pull them out successfully.

  2. Honestly, you have to drag them out by hand 1 by 1. It's tedious. You can use conditioner, and a lice comb first, but it doesn't really get them. You have to slide each one down each strand of hair. It's tedious but it's the only real way to do it. Also, do anyone else's hair in the family! Regardless of whether you don't think you have it. Wash all linens with either bleach or pine sol and spray off mattresses and couches with that spray that kills them. Any fabrics... because they can live off her and come right back!

  3. you need to use a fine toothed comb and comb through every single strand of hair to remove each one. They are not dead trust me. The products that kill live lice do not kill the eggs. They will hatch and she will again get live lice if you do not remove the nits (eggs). If you can;t get a fine toothed comb then use your nails but you have to remove each one or they will hatch and it will start all over again.

  4. Put conditioner to dry hair until the hair is wet, then use the comb. Conditioner will make it easier for the lice to come out.

If all else fails, mum may need to sit there and pull them out by hand. Best method, but is lots of hard work :)

  5. Your sister MUST get rid of the nits. They will hatch....

    Here's how...

Use mayonnaise. I'm serious about this. Rub mayo all thru the hair and then cover with a shower cap or even a plastic grocery sack tied behind the head. Wear it in the hair for about 2 hours.

THEN use a lice comb and begin combing it out. Run water from your sink and rinse comb out after each combing. After you've given it a good combing, wash hair.

At your local drug store/pharmacy, you can buy a bottle of TEA TREE OIL. It's with the vitamins. It's not expensive. Rub it on the scalp after showers. Lice hate the smell. Do this after each washing.

You need to mayo hair EVERY DAY for about 4 days in a row, then ONCE A WEEK after that for a few weeks.

Also, wash all sheets, pillowcases, blankets.

It's a PAIN, but you get rid of them. If you don't follow-up with weekly mayo sessions, you will get them again.

  6. My cousin had the same problem

you have to take a small flea comb type thing and take them out, by hand. in the bathtub just wash her hair, then get down on your hands and knees and pull all the eggs out by hand

It's hard work but it works
