Question:

Removing trim?

What's the easiest, and precise way to remove a part of the trim that goes along the floor? I need to remove just a section of it from the one side, so a wall unit can be flush with the wall, as the trim sticks out about half an inch.

  1. Use a back saw to cut the trim in place then pry it lose.  Otherwise you will need to pry the entire length, cut and reattach.  A thin sheet of tin or plastic should be used to protect the wall.

  2. The best way to remove a trim piece is to use a nail set and a hammer.  Push in the nails that are currently holding the piece in place through the trim into the wall.  This should allow the piece to come off with little effort.  I would also use a utility knife to cut along the top side of the trim where it meets the wall.  This will prevent paint and drywall from pealing.  good luck.
