Removing vavle covers

need to remove vavle covers on a small block chevy, center bolt stlye, i tried a rubbermallet. these thing wont budge

keep hitting them until they break loose or get a hammer and screwdriver under one corner and wedge the driver in and pry it off.

try ot get a large blade s***w driver under on corner of the valve covers.  Pry up gently.     Try not to bend to metal cover but small bends can be easily straightened out with a small rubber mallet or pliers if the bedn a little.

Cork gaskets are the worse.  Use rubber ones when you replace them.
