Removing wallpaper.... how to get off the sticky glue?

I am removing wallpaper off a wall, the wallpaper has come off very well, I just used water and a steamer, no chemicals. However, the wall is super sticky from the wallpaper glue and I can't seem to get it off! I have tried scrubbing it w/ a bit of soap and water, then I tried some Lysol, but nothing seems to work well and it is so much scrubbing and work! Can I just forget about it and put a coat of primer over the glue and be done with it? If not what are the better options?

  1. I used a mixture of fabric softener and water... start weaker and make it stronger if needed.  I didn't need to much of the softener (just a couple of capfulls in a gallon of water).  Use a sponge.  A scrubby sponge works well, it just doesn't hold as much solution.  Scrub the walls till the glue is gone, then wipe off with a damp cloth (rinse the cloth in between).  You want the glue off the walls before you prime or else you may end up with 'textured' walls where you don't want texture.

    Good luck!

  2. If you're just going to put wallpaper back on the walls, I wouldn't worry about it.  If you're painting over it, primer would work if the texture from the glue isn't too rough.

  3. I just used soap & water & a green scrubbie. I had a spray bottle of water that I would spray a large area & let it soak as I went along. very time consuming but worth it in the long run.

  4. I would use very warm water and 1 cup of  white vinegar, sponge this onto the wall leave it for about 2 minutes and then wipe clean with cloth.

    It worked for my sister.
