Remy Fairweather and Elaine Breeden clinch titles in California: Day one – Los Angeles Invitational
Day one of the Los Angeles Invitational put forward the scintillating performances of Remy Fairweather and Elaine Breeden in Los Angeles, California, on Friday, July 15.
The opening session of the meet conducted the Women’s 800m freestyle and Women’s 200m butterfly finals. Australia’s Remy Fairweather was the winner in the 800m freestyle, whereas, Elaine Breeden of Stanford notched the 200m butterfly crown.
In the Women’s 800m freestyle meet, Fairweather edged out New SO Wales’ Laura Crockart and West Coast CA’s Kelsey Cummings with a winning time of 8 minutes and 37.07 seconds. Crockart clinched the silver medal with a sterling time of 8 minutes and 41.62
seconds, while Cummings earned bronze in a time of 8 minutes and 46.90 seconds.
Erin Killey of New So Wales wound up fourth in 8 minutes and 47.25 seconds, whereas, Samantha Shellem settled fifth in a time of 8 minutes and 47.48 seconds. Tristin Baxter of Clovis-CC finished eighth in 8 minutes and 52.36 seconds.
After claiming victory in the Women’s 800m freestyle relay final, Fairweather was impressed with her individual performance in the meet.
The Women’s 200m butterfly crown was captured by Stanford’s Elaine Breeden with a winning time of 2 minutes and 09.12 seconds. After the corresponding race, Breeden was satisfied with her individual performance in the championship. She is expecting to clinch
more titles in the event.
Trojan’s Lyndsay De Paul secured the silver medal in a time of 2 minutes and 11.32 seconds, whereas, Tanya Krisman of North Coast earned bronze in 2 minutes and 12.85 seconds. Elaine Breeden’s team-mate, Andie Taylor wound up fourth in 2 minutes and 13.38
seconds, while Yumi So of Swim Pasadena earned fifth place honours in a time of 2 minutes and 13.75 seconds.
Yasi Jahanshahi of Team Bruin was placed sixth in 2 minutes and 13.79 seconds. Sandpipers’ Barker Olivia wound up seventh in a time of 2 minutes and 13.84 seconds, whereas, Alyssa Anderson of Ford Aquatics was placed eighth in 2 minutes and 14.00 seconds.
