Remy Fairweather wins Women’s 400m freestyle: Day two – 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games
Remy Fairweather of Australia won the gold medal of Women’s 400m freestyle on the second day of the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games on September 10, in Isle of Man.
14-year-old Fairweather astounded the arena with her gold winning effort of 4 minutes and 06.82 seconds. Her commendable effort place her 1.18 seconds ahead of Leah Neale of Australia, who posted a time of 4 minutes and 08.00 seconds for the silver medal.
Neale was followed by Sian Morgan of Wales, who remained just 1.71 seconds slower than her former finisher and reported a time of 4 minutes and 09.71 seconds for the bronze medal.
The fourth position of the event was secured by Michelle Weber of South Africa, who remained considerably away from the bronze medallist and completed her swim in a fourth fastest time of 4 minutes and 10.00 seconds. Fiona Donnelly of Scotland obtained fifth
position of the event.
Next was the Men’s 4*100m freestyle relay, where the Australian squad clinched the title of the event by posting a time of 3 minutes and 20.01 seconds. The relay team of Australia was trailed by England, which remained only 0.70 seconds behind the gold medallist
and reached the podium for silver medal by posting a time of 3 minutes and 20.71 seconds.
The fourth position of the event was obtained by New Zealand team, which remained only 0.28 seconds slower than South Africa’s squad and posted a time of 3 minutes and 22.24 seconds. They were followed by team of Scotland, as they were only 1.58 seconds
behind the fourth finishers and clocked a time of 3 minutes and 23.82 seconds.
The last event of the session was Women’s 4*200m freestyle relay, where once again the Australian squad proved their dominance for the crown with a timing of 8 minutes and 00.11 seconds. Relay team of Wales obtained silver medal of the event, as their team
posted a time of 8 minutes and 07.35 seconds. They were followed by Scottish team, which stayed almost three seconds slower than their preceding squad and submitted a time of 8 minutes and 10.67 seconds.
In the meantime, the fourth spot of the event was secured by South African team, whose swimmers concluded their relay event in a time of 8 minutes and 32.28 seconds. The last team of the event was England, which was disqualified as their last swimmer, Sophie
Smith made a falsified start.
The session completed after the completion of all scheduled events, while the winners of all meets were cordially invited on the medal rostrum for their immaculate efforts in respective categories.
