The female singles shuttler Rena Wang from U.S.A walked in the Swiss Open with a bang in qualifying round against Nicole Schaller from Switzerland on March 13, 2012.
The World Number 58 shuttler Rena Wang doubled the joy for her country in the Women’s singles event by following the success paved by her sister Iris Wang earlier.
The female singles expert Rena eased into the second round of qualification trials by hammering her opponent with 21-13, 13-21 and 22-20 score on the board. She had to stretch hard for 51 minutes to complete her 2-1 win over Nicole Schaller.
Despite of being relatively low ranked shuttlers both female players exhibited their prime skills throughout three sets and earned a great deal of respect for their court craft.
The 21-year-old Rena Wang acted like a seasoned player in opening game of the match and established her supremacy over Nicole Schaller. She pushed her rival in all areas of the court and did not allow the Swiss to open her arms.
She pocketed the first match point by registering final 21-13 score on the board.
The convincing first set win with notable 8 points lead raised her hopes to strike a straight-set victory but the Swiss shuttler Nicole Schaller stood in her way. She did not lose her nerves after the first set loss.
The second game was a repeat show of first set but of course in reverse manner as Nicole levelled the lead with same 21-13 first set score. The backlash from Nicole Schaller was a feast for the eyes as her American opponent completely got pale and remained
frustrated to return her services and smashes.
The second set results saved the match from being a dead contest and put life back into the match. The decisive third game turned the best part of the match as both players kept each other on their toes.
The neck-and-neck contest kept the spectators glued to their chair until the last rally when Rena Wang emerged as victor by scoring the final match point and ended the battle in her favour with final score of 22-20.
With this win the Wang sisters are now in second round of qualifying draws where Rena Wang will take on Michelle Chan Ky from New Zealand.
