TOPIC: The period of the Renaissance saw great changes in Western Europe. The governing of people is an area where major change took place. Various powerful families ruled major cities because of their wealth. They were driven by the ideas of Machiavelli and Castiglione.

Discuss Renaissance society (nobility, townspeople and peasants). Who were the various rulers in Renaissance Italy and how did they govern? Finally, explain the views of Machiavelli and Castiglione and the influence that they had on Renaissance society.

Discuss how it changes from being 90% serfs to people living in cities.

An interesting new theory about the Renaissance suggests that the Chinese actually helped get it in motion.  Gavin Menzies makes these claims in his book, 1434.  I don't know if he's right or not, but it's an interesting thought.
