Question:

Renaissance Wedding flowers

I am a make up artist and yesterday I met the most wonderful woman at a bridal show. I am going to be doing the make up for her wedding and she was telling me she needed bouquets for her 2 bridesmaids and one for herself. I asked her why she doesn't make her own using high quality silk flowers. I did this for my wedding but only in the centerpieces. I wish I would have done it for my bouquet as well. She unfortunately can not do it because she has a problem with her hands and has to have surgery after the wedding. I would like to offer to make her bouquets and I really would appreciate some help on what flowers would work well with a renaissance wedding. I don't mean to babble on and on she just deserves the best and I would love to do this for her. The first thing I thought of was browns, ivy and twigs/sticks. I guess very earthy. Does anyone have photos or thoughts on what I could do? Thanks!

  1. A bunch of lavender tied with a simple ribbon

    Rosemary for remembrance

    A pomander

    An herbal bouquet

  2. I had a hand bouquet which I ordered and picked up myself. I got married in Feb 2008. I paid for all the wedding expenses, so my last drawn salary of S$1300 pay(only) as a shipping clerk per month was spent mostly on our wedding, held with the Singapore Hokkien Huey Kuen, on the large framed up picture with a bridal shop(which has shifted), on the 2 sets of wardrobe done, and all other expenses. Total, I think I spent close to S$8,000.

  3. A bouquet of just picked wildflowers, tied with a simple ribbon.

  4. I think that you need to stay with the colors of the wedding. The use of some ivy and some cornflowers along with some daises and have some type of ornamental sticks of some sort or maybe some type of spanish moss on the stick for texture.  I'm sure whatever you will come up with she will certainly appreciate..One more thing, you could also use magnolia's with ivy and baby's breath, would make a nice bouquet.  Good Luck and be creative.

  5. That is very sweet of you!

I would suggest using greenery and accents pieces such as ivy, branches, and berry sprays.

For the flowers, I would recommend the rose as well as ranunculus, or perhaps delphinium and wildflower fillers.

However, I think you could really use almost any flower that you, or the bride like, and purchase them in dark colors.  During the Renaissance period, only the deepest darkest colored flowers were used.

    Good luck with your arrangements!

  6. u could make a real bouquets of wild flowers and take it in to garden ridge or hobby lobby. that would be really pretty.

  7. How sweet of you to want to help out!

Even in the renaissance period, roses were a prized flower. you could incorporate them unto the bouquet of simple ivy easily. if it were me, i'd try to find garden or spray roses to be most accurate to a renaissance theme.

  8. What about herbal bouquets, I've seen some pretty ones with roses and other herbs that have meaning or are symbolic, like this one: http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/gl_herbs/articl...
