Help me I have to write a paper and can not find much info on the subject on Humanities and art

The renaissance was a period of rebirth..that is literally what the word means. The status of the artist was being challenged. It was felt that there was as much worth in art and literature as there was in the mechanical arts of mathamatics and science.

The artists could acheive status by finding patrons in wealthy families or positions of power who would commission an altar piece or a portrait for them that would spread the fame of the patron and therefore raise the profile of the artist too.
