Renaming computer on network?

Hi, I'm currently trying to rename a computer that's part of my company's network. I'm know how to rename the actual computer , but do I also have to add the new computer name to the active directory as well? Any help is appreciated.

That depends on whether you have assigned computers for each one of your users. Otherwise, as long as you change the name of the computer and reboot it, the next time someone logs in from that computer, Active Directory should recognize the new name. Though mapped network drives will likely have to be redone, unless you mapped them based on IP addresses.
