Renan Barao and Scott Jorgensen to fight at UFC 143 in bantamweight division – UFC News
Brazilian mixed martial art (MMA) fighter Renan Barao will fight against American MMA fighter Scott Jorgensen. Their bout will take place at UFC 143 on February 4, 2011. The two fighters will enter the UFC octagon ring for the bout booked in the bantamweight category. The UFC officials confirmed the bout on December 9, 2011.
Jorgensen had the opportunity to win the World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) Bantamweight Championship but he was unable to secure a win over Dominick Cruz in December 2010 at WEC 53. He was not given any other chance but at UFC 143 he would focus on winning the match to earn a possible bantamweight title bout in the future.
Barao, on the other hand, would be the dominant fighter in the bout for he has won twenty-seven straight bouts in his career. He lost his debut MMA bout in April 2005 against Joao Paulo Rodrigues. Since May 2005, when he contested in his second MMA bout, he has remained unbeaten. Barao made his successful UFC debut at UFC 130 in May 2011 by beating Cole Escovedo followed by his second UFC win at UFC 138 against Brad Pickett in November 2011.
Jorgensen made his transition into the UFC from WEC when both promotions were merged together. As the two fighters make their way to Las Vegas to take part in UFC 143, they both would have their bantamweight title bout on their mind. They have shown great skills and aggression in the world of MMA. For them, UFC 143 would be a proving ground where the two would try to earn the respect of UFC fans.
Barao has earned the accolade of becoming the fighter with the longest streak in combat sport. What is interesting to note that although there is wide contrast between the two fighters in terms of winning matches, both are standing in line to get a bantamweight title match in the future.
Ever since the UFC confirmed the bout between Barao and Jorgensen, it has spread an air of excitement in the UFC and MMA division. Fans are expecting the bantamweight bout to be an aggressive one as both fighters have the tendency to get a huge win.
