Renault Formula 1 driver Robert Kubica continues to recover from rally injuries
Renault’s Robert Kubica is continuing his recover from injuries that he sustained during a rally event in the early part of February. Dr Mario lgor Rossello has recently updated the media on Kubica’s current condition. His statement mentioned that Kubica
has been transferred to the rehabilitation department at Santa Corona hospital.
Kubica severely injured his right hand following his horrific crash. He was airlifted to the hospital where he underwent seven hours of surgery to his hand. Following Kubica’s operation, Dr. Rossello said, “Robert’s hand is in optimal condition and has not
suffered any further trauma after such complex surgery, his hand remains well vascularised and warm.”
Kubica missed both Formula 1 test sessions of Jerez and Barcelona, as Nick Heidfeld took over driving duties for Renault with his team-mate Vitaly Petrov.
As Kubica improves, the doctors have stated that he is making good progress and his condition is considered positive. The Formula 1 drivers who were present at the Jerez test session gave a ‘get well soon’ message to Kubica on the car livery and wished him
back soon to the circuit.
The Renault team is extremely hopeful for Kubica’s quick recovery and his eventual return to the squad. The team believed that he would perform well because of his inclusion in several tests and the fact that he properly understood the new Pirelli tyres.
His inclusion in the 2011 Formula 1 season seems impossible, as doctors have advised the driver to take up to12 months of rest before getting back behind the wheel.
Dr. Rossello is also hopeful for Kubica’s quick recovery and said, “He no longer needs intensive care so he has begun the rehabilitation process. He is now in his own large room so that he is as comfortable as possible. He’s no longer in pain and his psychological
condition is pretty good. He’s obviously keen to start the rehabilitation work as soon as possible.”
Kubica will need to stay in the hospital under the care of doctors, as he heals his injuries there is still the possibility of infection and other complications so he may need more dressings on his hand.
In the upcoming season, it is confirmed the Vitaly Petrov will drive along side Nick Heidfeld in Renault’s new R31 car. The team is putting all their trust in Vitaly and Heidfeld to put in good performances this year. It will be interesting to see how both
drivers manage to cope with the pressure of competing with all the other top drivers in Formula 1.
Kubica’s unfortunate accident has put pressure on Renault to adapt their strategy to his replacement Heidfeld in a very short amount of time. The fans will be cheering Heidfeld, as they pray for the quick recovery of Kubica.
