Question:

Renault Megane - Indicators and hazards not working?

Hi,

I have a 1999 renault megane 1.4 RT. Suddenly all of the indicators and the hazard lights have stopped working.

Also, when I use the remote central locking, the indicators do not flash.

When I try to use the indicators or hazards, I am getting the "quick clicking" sound normally heard when a bulb is about to go - however the indicator arrow lights on the dash are not working either.

I've checked some of the bulbs and they seem fine. I doubt its the fuses because the manual says the indicators are on the same fuse as the side lights - and all of the other lights (side, dipped, full, fog, reverse, brakes) are working fine.

Would anyone have an idea on this? If it's not too serious I don't mind going to a breakers yard, getting the part and fixing it myself.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

  1. flasher unit has packed up, easy fix replace with a new unit... where to find it is another matter, you're have to refer to the manual

  2. Very simple your flasher relay ha s gone check your handbook for were it is or go to a moterist discount shop they will help you they just plug in cheers Charlie

  3. many flasher relays are now built into the hazard switch thus changing the hazard switch will rectify your problem

  4. relay easy fix.

  5. That's very odd: The 'fast clicking' of the indicator relay signifies a blown bulb, but the hazard relay should click at the normal rate, it's not sensitive to resistance. I would say that either all six indicator bulbs have gone (ridiculously unlikely) or the hazard relay is at fault.

  6. It sounds like the indicator unit has failed. i would suspect that it must have been a part made by BMW, given the number of them i have seen without working indicators ;)
