Renault Might Not Use F-Duct at Italian Grand Prix
Renault have announced that they might not use their F-Duct during the upcoming race in Italy although this system had immensely delighted the team at Spa Francorchamps last weekend, earning them 17 points.
Renault have returned happily from Spa after having finished the race at podium. Robert Kubica was able to end at third place behind Lewis Hamilton of McLaren and Mark Webber of Red Bull.
The track at Monza has several long straights where the device may seem perfect to boost speed, however the team engineers have expressed their fear for the ultra-low down force nature of the circuit which clearly shows that a light weight sleeker as well as more efficient rear wing and engine cover would be a better option to pace up the car.
Meanwhile, McLaren, who were the first team to use the technology as the season started, might consider taking both their F-duct and non F-duct top body for the Monza track. They intend to make the final decision regarding this after having tested both of them at the circuit.
Earlier, there had been suggestions that Renault, which used the F-duct for the first time in Spa and was able to produce great results, must do the same as well. "Monza will be quite a tricky race," the Renault driver, Robert Kubica said after having a third place podium finish at Spa. He continued that there is a lot of difference between the down force levels of both the tracks; therefore the team is considering not using the F-duct there.
The Polish racer moreover disclosed that there are possibilities that the F-duct will not be fitted to the car for the Singapore Grand Prix as well which would take place after the Italian race. The reason for omitting this device, according to him, is that it’s a street circuit and doesn’t offer many straights.
However, Kubica is much satisfied with his current car and hopes to see the team perform better in both the upcoming races. Currently, the team stands at fifth place in the Constructors’ Championship having bagged a total of 123 points.
