Renault team boss, Eric Boullier stays positive yet realistic. He stated that winning a championship is definitely not their goal for next season. Rather he believes that the team is only looking forward for more consistent performances,
a few race wins and wrapping up the season decently in fourth position in the Constructor’s Championship.
The team entered the 2010 season with the pains and aches of a miserable season behind them. However, the combined effort of all the team members and some brilliant performances by the team driver, Robert Kubica has given the injured
team much needed relief. Despite the fact that the Renault car was not as competitive as some of the other teams, the driver still did a pretty good job and was able to finish in points every now and then and also secured a few podiums.
These encouraging finishes by Kubica gives a ray of hope to the team that they could soon return to the title-winning glorious days enjoyed by them during the mid-2000s.
However, the team principal, Boullier believes in a slow and steady progress. While talking to the media earlier this week he said that he would want to lay a strong foundation before trying to achieve big targets. He exclaimed
that he is looking for a solid step forward for the team next season.
The French man explained, "Ambition for next year is to clearly be able to position our cars on the podium more regularly, which would allow us to grab maybe some wins. If we can put the team as a ‘podium fighter’ for the Constructor’s
Championship I will be very happy.”
Renault finished the 2009 season disappointingly in 8th place whereas this season they had been able to rise up to 5th position in the Constructor’s Championship. Now, the team is looking forward for wrapping up the
2011 season in 4th place on the Constructors’ Charts, before setting their eyes on the title.
From the start of the season the team had not been very strong or competitive. A considerable amount of time and money went into the car this season, gradually improving it. The team began working on next season’s car right ahead
of time. Now, as this season has come to an end, all the teams are getting burying themselves in their factories for the designing and making of the next car. Boullier seem fairly optimistic that this work in advance will pay off.
"I think that we had a very early start for the new car and because we have, I hope, learned from the past mistakes, especially for the KERS, it should be promising and we should get some advantage by being very well prepared for
the next year," he said.
When asked about his expectations from the new Pirelli tyres, he dismissed all suggestions that the new rubber could brighten their chance of the Championship. There had been several stories in the media that the new tyres will dramatically affect the performance
of some of the top teams, giving an edge to the mediocre ones like Renault. However, Boullier believes that nothing as such could happen, although he believes that the next season will not be short of surprises as a change of tyre is a very huge thing in the
Formula One world.
