Renault aims to bring upgrades for the Turkish Grand Prix: Formula 1 Update
Renault’s team principal, Eric Boullier, has claimed that the team will bring some major upgrades to the car in the Turkish Grand Prix, which will take place on Sunday, 8 May. The British team got off to a very good start in the Formula 1 2011 season, with
two podium finishes in the same number of races.
Boullier claimed, “With the logistics issue it was too complicated, and we had enough small updates to try for the Friday practice. We can still fine-tune the one we have, so we can improve a little bit.”
There wasn’t much time for the Formula 1 teams to bring major upgrades for this weekend, as they had very little time between the Malaysian and Chinese GP. Only team to bring some upgrades in Shanghai was McLaren, which revised its floor and exhaust system.
Commenting on Renault’s performance until now, Boullier stated, “I don't believe from one race to another we will be much faster, but it was good for us that we got two podiums from two different track layouts. It means we have a good car, a good base, but
obviously it will not be easy to catch up with the big boys in front.”
He further added that the team was focussing on a getting good starts in the race. The Frenchman claimed that his team’s aim was to improve on the Kinetic energy Recovery System (KERS), in order to get the maximum performance out of the car.
Renault has limited the likes of Ferrari to finish on the podium and the team targets to stay ahead of the Italian outfit. However, it will be a very tough ask for the team to catch up with McLaren and Red Bull.
Renault’s driver, Nick Heidfeld, had a good start to the Chinese race weekend, as he finished fifth fastest in the first practice session. He just came out for five laps and was close to the pace of McLaren.
However, Heidfeld’s team-mate, Vitaly Petrov, was unable to make an impression today on Friday 15 April, as he only managed to finish ninth overall. Both drivers will be eyeing an improvement in the second practice session, which will also take place today
in Shanghai.
