Renault apologise to Red Bull Racing for alternator failure in 2012 Italian GP – Formula 1 news
Renault have apologised to Red Bull Racing for the alternator failure in the 2012 Italian Grand Prix due to which their driver, Sebastian Vettel had to retire.
Vettel performed reasonably well during the qualifying of the Italian GP as he secured 5th grid position for the race. Moreover, he took a convincingly start and was targeting to close the gap to the front, however, his alternator stopped working
and he could not score even a single point in the race and was retired eventually.
The veteran German driver faced the same issue in the European GP in which he had a strong lead over the contenders at his back but unfortunately his car stopped after 33 laps and Fernando Alonso of Ferrari won the race.
Renault engineer, Cyril Dumont has recently expressed their apology in this regard and said that although they had changed Vettel’s alternator before the race but unfortunately they again struggled with the same problem which they were encountered with at
Valencia Street Circuit.
“We changed the alternator on Sebastian's car but unfortunately we had the same failure in the race,” said Dumont.
In addition, he said that they are still trying to find out the reason for the alternator’s failure as they couldn’t understand why it happened when all the tests went fine.
“We are still looking into why this happened, but we do know that even though the alternator was being operated entirely within the prescribed range, the part itself overheated and shut off the power supply,” he said.
Besides, he said that they are very sorry to the defending champions who have lost some crucial points in their championship leads. Nevertheless, he said that their main concern is to resolve the matter as soon as possible.
“We have to apologise to Red Bull Racing as clearly this has hurt us in the Championship. We have no option but to sort it out, and it will still be a priority before Singapore,” he added.
The preceding race was a big disappointment for the Milton Keynes based team as both their drivers remained pointless. On one side, Vettel’s alternator was blocked while on the other hand, his teammate, Mark Webber spun during 51stlap and moved
back to the pits.
