Renault boss Eric Boullier says Nick Heidfeld has to aim for podium finishes – Formula 1 news
Renault boss Eric Boullier has updated the media that his team driver Nick Heidfeld has to focus for podium finishes in the upcoming race weekends after a disappointing show in the recent Monaco Grand Prix.
The German kicked off to an impressive 2011 Formula 1 season. He surprised his team by taking a podium finish in the Malaysian Grand Prix.
In recently held Monte Carlo race, the team was expecting a podium finish from Heidfeld. However, his R31 car’s pace was not so good and due to that, he could not do so.
Renault’s new machine did not play a supportive role over the Monaco race weekend. Heidfeld was one lap slower than the race winner, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull and finished his race in the 8th spot.
Although he was unable to deliver his best run on the Monaco circuit against stronger rivals, the team boss still believes that he will make improvements in his race during the upcoming grand prix.
Boullier discussed Heidfeld’s progress and said, “It needs to be from practice one to be at least on Vitaly's pace and it looks like there is always a delay, and qualifying if you are not ready car wise, balance wise and confidence wise then you cannot deliver
on one single lap.”
He went on to add, “Sunday is okay. Sunday's pace is good, it is very good, but obviously the higher we qualify on the grid, the better the chance we have to score more points. If you are first and third on the grid, that is not a worry. But if you are 11th
and 16th then that starts to be a worry.”
The team boss also mentioned that they were disappointed with Vitaly Petrov’s accident in the closing laps of the Monaco Grand Prix, because before that he was moving in the right direction. Petrov is now in a good shape after the necessary treatment following
the heavy crash at the Monte Carlo street track. He is confident that he is healthy and fit to race in Canadian Grand Prix.
Let’s see how Nick Heidfeld manages to perform during the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal.
