Renault clio1.4rt 1994 engine turns over but will not fire have to pour l petrol down carb to get to run help!

have changed ht leads and plugs has go petrol in tank cause when it pour petrol down carborettor to start it runs fine after that.

The fuel pump inside the tank is at fault

Replace the in tank fuel pump

I'm confused - the 1.4 Clio never had a carburettor. It had single-point fuel injection from the start of production.

The other two answers are correct, I had this problem with an eighties Hyundai, an egg cupfull of petrol down the air intake on the carb done the trick, dont work with fuel injection though

you have what is called a lazy fuel pump. what that means is that the pump has not got the pressure to pump fuel only by the revolutions that the starter is producing, but when it is running after you pour petrol into the carb then the engine is turning faster so is the pump, henc it runs.  change the fuel pump.
