Renault doctor says cannot make any predictions for Robert Kubica’s recovery period – Formula 1 news
Renault doctor Riccardo Ceccarelli has updated the media that Robert Kubica needs a lot of time to recover from injuries that he sustained in the rally crash in February 2011.
However, he said Kubica is getting better day-by-day.
Kubica is still under the doctors’ observation in a hospital. After three successful surgeries, Kubica underwent a physiotherapy programme and can move his right wrist and fingers, as a result.
With regards to his mental state, Ceccarelli confirmed that he faces ‘up and downs’ but he is now pushing hard to return to his full fitness.
Following his first operation, Dr. Rossello explained to the team that Robert’s hand is in optimal condition as he conducted a successful surgery.
The 26-year-old Kubica missed the next pre-season Formula 1 tests, following his horror crash. Nick Heidfeld took over driving duties for Renault with his teammate Vitaly Petrov. Kubica received ‘get well soon’ message from all the Formula 1 drivers who
were present at the Jerez test session moreover the team missed his driving in the Barcelona testing. According to a report in the Italian media, Kubica will require up to 3 months of rest before stepping back on the track.
On the other hand, Kubica considers lucky to himself as he came out from a serious condition. He insisted, “I am facing a long and difficult rehabilitation, but I am not worried about that.”
As Kubica was severely injured and he underwent three serious operations, doctors are still unable to give any definite report of his recovery.
Ceccarelli said, “Robert is very strong and he is recovering in a good way. But, there is a third factor which is nature - how will nature be with him? This is something we cannot say.So it is question that is impossible to answer. We only think we have
two positive aspects: the job done by the doctors and Robert, who is strong. So, these are the only things we have at the moment. All the rest is impossible to say.”
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso visited the hospital, before the final Barcelona test. He expressed his happiness ahead of his friend’s fast recovery. After him, the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) president Jean Todt also visited Robert Kubica.
Kubica is likely to miss the full 2011 season that is expected to start on March 27 in Melbourne. Nick Heidfeld will race in his place for Renault along with Vitaly Petrov.
