Renault driver Heidfeld says Webber cannot beat Vettel in the 2011 Formula 1 season
Renault driver Nick Heidfeld has said that despite the fact Red Bull’s Mark Webber is performing very well in the 2011 Formula 1 season, but he cannot beat his teammate Sebastian Vettel in the drivers’ championship this year.
Heidfeld also said that the RB7 car has been the best car in the season so far and it played a very supportive role for Vettel during his races.
The defending driver Vettel has won six races out of eight rounds of this season. He is leading the drivers’ championship with 186 points, while his teammate Webber is in the third position with 109 points.
Webber had a stronger season in 2010 as compared to 2011. He beat Vettel many times during the last season. However, he has had some Kinetic Energy Recovery System issues in the initial races this season and due to that, he could not impress his team with
a strong performance.
The Renault driver added that Vettel is doing great job in the ongoing season, winning six rounds and two finishes on the podium in the season so far.
The German insisted that Webber cannot beat the current world champion, because Vettel is much stronger as compared to him during the race days.
Heidfeld added, “I think he can come back and be stronger. But he certainly won't be able to do enough to beat Vettel for the Championship. But I do think, at some races, he will at least be able to give him a hard time.”
Apart from that, the 34-year-old driver discussed the upcoming British Grand Prix and mentioned that he is sure the new ban on off-throttle Blown Diffuser will affect the race performances of drivers at the Silverstone circuit.
He went on to say, “I think from Silverstone on we will have a regulation change with the diffuser and that might change things. We can only guess what will happen with that and how it will affect everyone, so we will have to wait and see.”
Renault had a disappointing race weekend in Valencia recently, however they are planning to bring some new upgrades for the British Grand Prix that will take place on July 10, 2011.
