Renault driver Nick Heidfeld encouraged by recovery in Spanish Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Renault driver Nick Heidfeld has stated that he is satisfied with his recovery at the recently held Spanish Grand Prix.
Despite starting the race from the last place, the German finished in eighth position after a very strong drive through the field.
Heidfeld failed to set a time in the Qualifying round of the Spanish Grand Prix after his R31 car caught fire during the Final Practice session on Saturday, May 21, 2011.
After the race, the team driver said that he is satisfied and happy with his eighth-place finish. He said, “Just like in Turkey, with one or two laps more I could have gained one or two more positions from the two Mercedes, but it's still a good result if
you look at where I started and everything that happened to the car over this weekend.”
The 34-year-old driver went on to mention, “I had a good start then I had to fight through the field with many overtaking moves so it was good fun for me behind the wheel. It's always encouraging to put in a strong performance, and I'm more happy and relaxed
heading to Monaco.”
On the other hand, Heidfeld’s teammate Vitaly Petrov was disappointed with his showing in the Barcelona race after he finished in the eleventh spot, having started from sixth place on the grid.
Petrov said that he was disappointed with his performance on Sunday, as he was unable to make better use of his sixth grid position and also, not pick up some points for the team. He further added that the team needed to analyse why he could not make progress
in the race despite having a perfect car and a decent position on the starting grid.
He also discussed the upcoming race in Monaco this weekend. He said that he wants to put things right in the race, where a strong Qualifying round will be quite important for them.
After the Spanish Grand Prix, both the drivers Heidfeld and Petrov are looking forward to their successful race weekend in Monaco. Let’s see to what an extent they manage to do that.
