Renault driver Nick Heidfeld eyeing pole place in Canadian Grand Prix qualifiers – Formula 1 news
Renault driver Nick Heidfeld has said that he is looking forward to secure a pole place in the qualifying round of the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix.
After the previous Monaco race weekend, the team principal Eric Boullier described Heidfeld’s job in ongoing season as “good but, not great.” Boullier added that he has a good pace during the race days, but his qualifying round pace was worrisome.
However, Heidfeld and his team have made some progress in understanding their qualifiers performance and it is due to that the driver is confident about his performance in Montreal.
The 34-year-old driver admitted that his Monaco qualifying progress has discouraged him badly, as he was focusing on securing his pole place in the closing time.
Apart from that, he mentioned that he was satisfied with the working of the new Pirelli compounds. He did not blame the tyres for his bad performance in the Monte Carlo race.
Heidfeld said, “Qualifying here will not be as important in Monaco and we have seen in other races that you can still have a good race performance. But the further forward you start, the better the race can be. I was also frustrated after Monaco qualifying.”
He went on to mention, “There are many areas. It's the set-up of the car and my driving. We are looking into what we might improve. It's obvious that some cars are strong in qualifying, but fall back in the race irrespective of who is driving the car. It's
several different things.”
Renault are still working on their 2011 car, R31, to make it perfect for the North American weekend race. They delivered some new parts to their car for the Montreal race with hopes of getting positive results from them.
Heidfeld seemed to be struggling for the race victory from the last couple of races in the ongoing 2011 Formula 1 season. In the last Monaco Grand Prix, he could not win the race due to some issues with his car.
The Renault driver is expecting a better qualifying round in the Montreal Grand Prix. Let’s see how he manages to secure a pole position for the race day.
