Renault driver Nick Heidfeld says Sebastian Vettel’s lead in 2011 season one-sided – Formula 1 news
Renault’s Formula 1 driver Nick Heidfeld has said that Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel’s lead in the drivers’ championship in the 2011 Formula 1 season is out of reach for any one else.
Heidfeld added that although there has been plenty of overtaking and some thrilling races in the 2011 season so far, still the lead in the drivers’ championship is one-sided.
Heidfeld, who ended his Montreal race in barriers, also said there are still 12 races to be contested in the season and a lot can happen, especially after the Blown Diffuser is clamped.
He said, “If you look at the lead Sebastian has in the Drivers' standings then it is not much of a fight at the moment. From that side of things it is quite one-sided. But, this could change very quickly and it will be interesting to see what happens when
the rules on the exhaust systems are altered.”
The German further said, “The races have been very exciting in terms of overtaking and unpredictability, so in that sense the sport has been more of a spectacle. On one hand, yes but on the other hand, no.”
Although Vettel is denying the fact that the Diffuser clamp down will affect Red Bull’s run in the 2011 season, still Heidfeld thinks that the Milton Keynes-based team will suffer.
Red Bull have taken all the seven pole positions of the 2011 Formula 1 season which indicates that their pace in the qualifiers is still unmatchable. Along with the qualifiers, Red Bull have also been quite fast in the race due to which they have been able
to stretch their lead in both championship tables.
However, as the diffuser is going to be banned from the July 2011 Silverstone Grand Prix, it will be interesting to see how much the defending champions suffer in terms of speed.
The Valencia Grand Prix will be contested on June 26, 2011 with the Blown Diffuser so another roaring performance can be expected from Vettel.
