Renault driver Vitaly Petrov feeling the heat after point-less finish at Hungarian GP – Formula 1
Lotus Renault GP’s Vitaly Petrov has recently stated that he found the Hungarian Grand Prix very difficult as the team was unable to secure a single point for the first time in the 2011 Formula 1 season.
With a month’s break though the team is hoping for the best possible results at the Belgian Grand Prix and one must keep an eye out for Renault as they have the ability to score extraordinary performances as well in such occasions.
“But we have a break now which gives us time to reflect and really home in on what needs to be improved. Often when you have back-to-back races, there's not sufficient time to take a step back at what's taken place. Now, with the August break, we have that
opportunity,” he said.
Other than that, he claims that the team did not have a sufficient amount of time to improve its car since the German Grand Prix and the Hungarian Grand Prix took place back-to-back with just a week’s break.
Mercedes GP on the other hand are now performing extremely well as they are 14 points ahead of Renault in the constructors’ standings keeping in mind that Michael Schumacher or Nico Rosberg have not secured a single podium while Vitaly Petrov and Nick Heidfeld
have secured a podium each this year.
The team’s performance started to deteriorate since then and now, it seems that they are quite confused about their technology as they have not been able to introduce some successful upgrades to the car.
Mercedes however are Renault’s closest rivals and they are improving with each race as they are now qualifying in Q3 very consistently and scoring some pretty good double point finishes.
The Hungarian Grand Prix for Renault was a disaster as Heidfeld retired out of the race while Petrov finished in a disappointing 12th place out of the points.
With 8 races remaining, Renault will be aiming to finish at least in 4th place ahead of Mercedes GP in the constructors’ standings which by the looks of it, is going to be very difficult for them.
