Renault driver Vitaly Petrov will take part in Race of Champions – Formula 1 news
Renault driver Vitaly Petrov will take part in the Race of Champions, which will be held later this year in ESPRIT stadium in Düsseldorf, from December 3-4, 2011.
Petrov talked to the media and said that it is a great honour for him, as he will be the first Russian Formula 1 driver, who will join the Race of Champions.
He added that he is delighted to become the first Russian to compete at the Race of Champions among world greatest drivers.
The Russian commented, “I’ve followed the event for a long time and I know that all the drivers claim to be there for fun, while pushing as hard as ever in the cars. I’ve never raced in an event with such a quick turnaround of machinery but perhaps my unusual
background in rally sprints and ice racing can help me. I’ll give my best and see what happens.”
The Race of Champions is an annual end-of-season competition among world’s greatest drivers from all Autosports order, which includes Touring cars, Formula 1, World Rally, Le Mans, MotoGP and the X-Games and all the drivers’ pair up for the Racing of Champions
Nations Cup.
On the other hand, the ROC organiser Fredrik Johnsson stated that after adding the Renault driver’s name in ROC drivers’ line-up, they look forward to seeing Petrov take on ROC’s best later this year in December.
He went on to mention, “We’re always aiming to expand our horizons at the Race of Champions so we’re thrilled to have our first Russian driver on board. Vitaly had a great GP2 career and he has carried that over to Formula 1 in the past two years.”
The Enstone-based outfit driver is performing well in the 2011 Formula 1 season as compared to 2010. After completing 17 rounds of the ongoing season, the 27-year-old driver is placed at the ninth place with 36 points in the 2011 drivers’ championship.
The 18th round of the season will take place in Abu Dhabi on November 13, 2011.
Let’s see how Petrov ends his 2011 Formula 1 season among his rivals.
