Renault drivers head confidently for the Hungarian Grand Prix
After a rainy yet dramatic and thrilling weekend in Germany, the Formula One caravan moves to its next destination at Budapest for the Hungarian Grand Prix. The tough and challenging track will host the twelfth Grand Prix of the 2010 season.
All the teams as well as the drivers head towards the next race of the season with full zeal and zest as the tour nears its final stage. Before the Formula One caravan moves towards its next destination, Team Renault spoke to F 1’s official website, expressing their views and strategy for the upcoming race.
Currently, the team stands at the fifth place on the Constructors’ Standings, one place behind Mercedes GP with a total of ninety six points earned so far. Team drivers Robert Kubica and Vitaly Petrov stand at the seventh and fourteenth places after having bagged eighty nine and seventy points respectively with eleven races of the season already complete.
Robert Kubica:
Last year, Kubica was not able to perform at the Hungarian Grand Prix as he stood at the 18th place in qualifying whereas the team ended at the 13th place on the final race day.
Now he is looking forwards to the weekend with great enthusiasm as the Polish driver says that a lot of Polish fans usually come to Budapest to witness the event. This is why it is more or less like a home Grand Prix for him. Kubica added that he is expecting to see a lot of people from his home town which always gives a lot of support to him.
While commenting on the track, he said that it is a difficult one and serves as a challenge for the drivers as well as the cars as there are long corners where a solid front grip is required, while on the other hand, the rear stability must also be good.
Vitaly Petrov:
The other Renault driver, for whom this race will serve as a first experience of driving on this track claimed that although he had already driven at the track for the GP2 Series, he knew it quite well. However, he could learn how it felt to race at the track with the Formula One series.
He added excitedly that he thinks that the circuit is very tricky and for driving here, one needs to make a very good combination of driving coupled with strong mental qualities.
Petrov admitted that he needs to work hard on improving his qualifying performance which could help him finish better in the upcoming races. He was happy to exclaim that in Germany, the pace of the car was very good and for him it was nearly a mistake-free weekend.
The Russian added that Robert has shown clearly what the car is capable of in qualifying last week and now it is time for him to do well.
He concluded by saying that his target for the weekend is to finish among the top ten and score some good points for the team.
There are only a few more days to go and F1 fans will witness what the team is be able to do at a track which offers a very difficult preposition as it carries a number of bumps along with a wide variety of corners.
Driving on this track had always been a challenge as one has to concentrate on many areas while keeping a good car balance, which could be very demanding on both physical and mental fronts.
Likewise, there is only one straight path and even that is not that long either.
