Renault duo Heidfeld, Petrov disappointed with European Grand Prix’s result – Formula 1 news
Renault drivers Nick Heidfeld and Vitaly Petrov have said that they are disappointed with their European Grand Prix results, as they were expecting a podium finish for the team in Valencia.
Both the drivers successfully finished their Friday Free Practice sessions on a positive note. The qualifying round of the European Grand Prix did not prove as lucky for them and they could not secure their best positions for Sunday’s race.
Heidfeld started his Valencia race from ninth position on the grid and ended up at the tenth place behind Force India’s Adrian Sutil. The German was not happy with his performance in Europe, as he was struggling for his podium finish from the start of the
weekend.
The 34-year-old driver discussed his Valencia Grand Prix outing and added that he tried his best to overtake Sutil in the closing laps of the race. However, the Force India driver used the Drag Reduction System and went past him.
About the upcoming British Grand Prix, Heidfeld said, “Overall this weekend, we pushed hard but it just has not been possible to get the pace out of the car that we wanted at this track. We will remain optimistic, though because Silverstone is a track with
a lot of high speed corners, and our car performs well in these conditions.”
Apart from that, his teammate Petrov was dissatisfied with his Valencia Grand Prix result as well. The Russian driver seemed to be improving from the Canadian Grand Prix.
Petrov said, “Of course I am disappointed with today's race. I was very surprised that the tyres did not last very well for us, as some of our competitors were able to do a two-stop race whereas we needed three.”
After the race, he admitted that his R31 car’s pace was not good enough to compete with strong rivals during the Valencia Grand Prix.
The 26-year-old driver was hoping for a podium finish at the Valencia Street Circuit after having a decent run in the last Canadian Grand Prix.
After a disappointing European race weekend, Renault are expecting a good run in the remainder of the 2011 Formula 1 season. Let’s see if they can manage that.
