Renault duo Heidfeld, Petrov satisfied with Friday practice sessions of Valencia GP – Formula 1 news
Renault drivers, Nick Heidfeld and Vitaly Petrov have said that they are satisfied with their results of the Friday practice sessions at the Valencia Street Circuit.
The duo finished its morning practice session at the fifth and second places, while they completed their second practice run in the ninth and tenth spots respectively.
Renault’s German driver, Heidfeld said that the afternoon practice session results gave them the ‘best’ indication of their car’s pace that it can beat a strong team in the Valencia race weekend. He admitted that he had a good time during both the practice
sessions. In addition, he mentioned that the Friday practice rounds were amazing and good in terms of learning about the new upgrades of their R31 car.
The team driver took a positive start to the European Grand Prix, as he successfully finished his Friday practice sessions on the new medium compounds.
The 34-year-old driver discussed his practice run at Valencia and said, “I think the times at the end of FP2 give the best indication of our pace relative to our competitors. In this morning’s session, I think some other teams were running different programmes
from us, so their times might have been a little misleading.”
Apart from that, his teammate Vitaly Petrov talked about his practice run and said that he is happy with the Friday practice sessions’ results, as he did not face any technical problem in his car during that and finished his run in the top ten.
The Russian driver admitted that he enjoyed his time with the Pirelli medium tyres, as they provided him an easy run during both the practice sessions.
The 26-year-old driver went on to mention, “I enjoyed the new medium tyres and they weren’t performing badly. It’s clear the soft tyres are, as expected, around 1.5 seconds quicker than the mediums so we will have to perform well on these tomorrow in order
to have a successful weekend.”
After a successful run at the Valencia Street Circuit during the free practice sessions, Renault are ready to perform strongly on the grid in qualifying round taking place on June 25, 2011.
