Renault duo Senna, Petrov disappointed with 2011 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix performance – Formula 1 news
Lotus-Renault drivers Bruno Senna and Vitaly Petrov are disappointed with their performance in the 2011 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix held on November 13, at the Yas Marina Circuit.
The Enstone-based outfit driver Senna talked to the media and said that there was not a crumb of comfort to take from the 2011 Abu Dhabi race performance.
The team driver, Senna did not have a good race weekend at the Yas Marina Circuit. He started the race from the 14th position on the grid and after running in his R31 car, he ended up in the 16th spot for Renault.
Talking to reporters, the Brazilian commented, “We suffered from a KERS failure, drive-through penalty and a car which was not on the money at this particular track. Put those together and you see why I finished where I did. There was lots of lost time to
make up and, strategically, we took a gamble that didn't pay off.”
Apart from that, the 28-year-old driver discussed the pace and stated that the Abu Dhabi race weekend was good in terms of pace.
He also stated that maybe for Brazil they will have a better baseline. He hopes they have a better race weekend in Brazil.
On the other hand, the teammate Petrov mentioned that the raceday was quite frustrating for him, because his car’s Drag Reduction System was not working properly.
The Russian added that the team thought they could have a good fight with the cars in front, but they were pretty helpless during the race, so they decided to change the strategy.
He went on to mention, “When I first stopped, we put fresh medium tyres on but unfortunately these did not last long enough so we returned to the pits on lap 38 to change to the soft. Unfortunately that ended up being too slow. The pace was not good enough
to score points and that's the reality.”
Petrov came at the 13th position in the final Abu Dhabi Grand Prix classifications after starting from the 12th place on the grid.
After completing the 18 rounds of the 2011 Formula 1 season until now, the team is placed at the fifth place with 72 points in standings.
Let’s see how they perform in the last round of the season.
