Renault has decided to focus on the 2011 season – Robert Kubica
Robert Kubica stated that he would be bracing himself for a tough time at the final four races as his team Renault has officially decided that they will shift their resources on the 2011 car.
Renault is currently in 5th place in the constructors’ championship with 133 points and is targeting the 4th place. Renault is currently 35 points behind their rivals Mercedes and hopes to close this deficit in the coming four races.
Robert Kubica has been performing very consistently scoring solid points at the last two races but stated that he might not be able to perform as well as the past couple of races as his team has put him in an uncomfortable position now. Renault has decided
to abandon their development work on the 2010 car like many other teams.
It is quite disappointing to see the teams shifting their focus absolutely on the 2011 car and not working on the current season.
“I think it will continue along similar lines, and we have some tough competitors around us. Of course, we will try our best, but I don't think the end of the season will necessarily be the easiest one for us”, he said.
The team does not have big new developments coming according to Kubica so it will depend a lot on how much development the rest of the teams bring to their cars. This means that Renault will wait and see what the rest of the teams do and try to follow in
their footsteps. This is not a good sign for Renault and Robert seemed disappointed as well, as these sorts of decisions drop the intensity level and hopes of a driver.
“This will have a big influence on where we end up and how good our end to the season will be”, he added.
However, his teammate Vitaly Petrov is hoping to score some good results at the final four grand prix of the season to maintain his momentum in Formula 1. The past couple of races have been very difficult for Vitaly but he thinks that it is because of his
lack of experience and some bad luck.
“I'm working hard and improving, especially with my feedback and understanding the car, but this has not been translated into the results. Now I need to show the team what I can do in the final races and show that I deserve to stay here next year”, Petrov
said.
However, one can say that the team wants to secure a front running drive for next year but the team will have to keep the pace this year as well. Otherwise, the team will be in the same position as they are this year.
