Renault hopeful that upgrades will bring upbeat results: Formula 1 News
Renault's team has decided to deliver some updates to the ‘R31’ car in Spanish Grand Prix. However, the team is hopeful that Barcelona race upgrades will bring upbeat result in the end of race weekend.
The team's driver, Nick Heidfeld wants to improve his team’s qualifying performances to increase their chance of another podium finish in Spanish Grand Prix after the Malaysia race.
From the previous races, Heidfeld thinks that it is important to maintain the grid positions to get their team’s pole finish. He added, "This season requires a real team effort from everyone. I will need to concentrate on getting the most out of it, but
I think it's too early days to speak about final championship positions just yet. Nico [Rosberg] is only a point behind me now.”
The 34-year-old driver also discussed the Ferrari's team. He said that it is just behind Renault from the last two races, so he has aimed to give Ferrari a strong challenge in next race weekend, because according to the previous race records, they have been
their strong competitors. However, the German feels that if they have strong qualifying sessions, they definitely improve their chances in up-coming races.
Most of the teams have observed that the qualifying round is not important for deciding the grid positions, as the season’s first four races proved that instead of giving importance to qualifying performances, the teams must look after their tyres' working.
Keeping in view the Heidfeld’s aim, the team is set to introduce a series of improvements to his car, which will deliver a great difference to the next Barcelona race.
For this purpose the Renault’s technical director, James Allison said, "We bring another handful of aerodynamic upgrades for the next race - the development race never lets up. None of them are individually large, but there are six in total and they add
up to another 0.15-0.20s per lap. It isn't a huge upgrade but if we can keep that up for every race then it starts to tell."
In the end, Allison discussed the Pirelli tyres and went on to mention that he predicted Barcelona race same like Turkey. He believes that the nature of Barcelona race circuit will turn out a large number of pit stops with plenty of over-takings during the
race, due to higher tyre degradation.
Both the drivers, Vitaly Petrov and Heidfeld seem in competitive form, as they want to finish their podium positions for the team. It is right to say that Heidfeld is performing well in place of Renault’s injured driver, Robert Kubica. The next race of the
season is scheduled to be held on May 22, at the Circuit de Catalunya, in Spain.
