Renault hoping to do better at the upcoming Korean Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Renault had an impressive performance at the recently held 2011 Japanese Grand Prix relative to their previous performances, and they believe it is going to get better at the Korean circuit, where the conditions and the circuit will suit their car much better.
Renault had a horrid time at the Singapore Grand Prix at the Marina Bay circuit which had a lot of turns and twists, but Suzuka was a better ground for them. Vitaly Petrov finished ninth, which has given the team some hope for a better performance at Singapore.
Renault’s inconsistent form is mainly due to its front exiting exhaust system. It is a unique design which in purpose should exert better downforce by generating better flow of air under the car. Their technical director James Allison believes Korea may
be the best circuit to achieve maximum output from the car’s unique exhaust system because the track is smooth in Singapore and it has low kerbs which allows the car to maintain a lower ride height.
“The Korean International Circuit is not a track which favours any particular aspect of the car; it's one where the entire package has to be maximised,” Allison told the team's official website.
“Interestingly, the track surface is very smooth and there are no notable bumps. All this with no kerbs of any stature and you can run the car very low. This could play to the strengths of our exhaust package as the potentially more constant proximity between
car floor and ground should aid and assist hot air flow management,” he further added.
The main focus of the team at the moment is the constructors challenge. Team principal Eric Boullier stated that they are looking forward to the 2012 season as a new beginning and would like to perform much better than this year.
Boullier also added that 2011 mostly has remained a transitional phase for the team, and by the end of the season they will have a much better picture and understanding of where they stand and how well their car and perform under different conditions.
It remains to be seen how they fare in the remaining 4 races of the ongoing 2011 Formula 1 season.
