i have set the engine to tdc using the mark on the flywheel then using the timing tool that holds the crank (a s***w in pin) and tried to put the belt on using the marks on the new belt but the marks dont line up its 2 teeth out , i wonder if the belt is the write one? maybe too many teeth ? i have checked the belt on there website (dayco) and its showing its the write one. would they make different size belts ,

any ideas please

thanks

  1. changed tensioners with that?  Does fitting the tensioner wheel (some call it the 'idler') pinch the belt in by two teeth?

  2. Dont worry about the lines turn the engine over 4 revolutions if nothing snags start it up .Did you count the number of teeth on your old belt

  3. Probably not the "write" belt - but it may be the "right" one.

  4. Make sure your tensioner jocky pully is fully released to its stops , or you will not have enough slack in the belt to offer it onto the cam wheel , make sure there is no slack between the grankshaft pully and the cam pully .then ajust the tensioner pully so that the belt is firm not hard tight , turn engine over by hand if it does not stick or stop then recheck timming marks . if all is ok retention belt so that you can half turn belt by hand. then and only then start car

  5. the timing marks are not on the belt they are on the drive pulleys and depending one which one it is they all differ is it a 1900d or a 1900tdi or a 1900dti ect.
