Renault mull over ambiguity of Robert Kubica’s comeback plans – Formula 1 news
Robert Kubica’s comeback has been on the cards for some time now, but Renault are still unsure whether Kubica will make his return in 2012 season or not.
Kubica had a crash in a rally race and suffered several fractures to his right hand and right leg. Although doctors have shown promise in his rehabilitation and assured that he will be able to race again contrary to early speculation that his career will
be over after the horrible accident.
Renault team boss Eric Boullier says that plans to give Romain Grosjean the Friday practice in Abu Dhabi and Brazil are targeted towards finding other choices now.
“We have to assess options and we are still waiting for Robert to come back to us to say he can test,” explained Boullier.
Although Boullier said that whenever he asks Kubica’s management, they show a lot of confidence in the prospect of a return for the driver.
“The last information I have is that we will have to sit down and discuss how we can handle his [Kubica's] comeback, because I don't believe he can commit in the coming days. In the coming weeks maybe – but not coming days,” Boullier added.
He also said that the team and the cars are ready for him, we are all set to have a go, but we need him to be ready for us, at the moment it is only him who can let us know whether he is ready to have a go or not.
“So we have to make sure that we work together on a plan for him to come back. But I still need to have a proper plan to make sure if he does not come back how we go forward in a good way,” he further explained.
Renault does not have a medical report about Kubica and therefore, they are unable to see how well he can drive when he makes his return to the sport, Boullier said. Some corners are also speculating that Kubica might not be at his best when he makes his
return.
Let’s see what transpires with Kubica’s comeback to the Renault team for the 2012 Formula 1 season in the days to come.
